Best Gold Investment Companies
Gold is a fairly hardy substance - not much effects it and it can be used in many different applications. Gold is one of those "forever" precious metals that makes it just as romantic as a piece of jewellery as diamonds or other precious stones. Gold has been around in various forms for millennia, but it was only in the middle ages that European countries decided to use gold as a proper currency. Gold jewellery is still one of the most popular uses of the substance today, although it does have a variety of other practical uses.

In the past gold was seen as not only beautiful but also as something that could heal your body. What captured early man's attention and desire is still true today with gold. Gold has been used for centuries as the currency of choice for the powerful and wealthy.. Computers, cars, medical research equipment, photography and electronics - just some of the modern practical uses of gold.

One of the things that people tend to forget about gold is that is quite rare - it can be found in only five tenths of the earth's outer layer! Gold's purity and the fact that you didn't have to do too much to it to make it look incredible meant it became an invaluable part of many early civilizations. You can still find roman and greek gold coins in archaeological sites around the world. Man's attachment to gold has not dwindled and it is still highly prized today. There are many ways that gold in the modern world can be used (it is, for example, a very good conductor of heat and electricity).

Along with silver, platinum and a range of other rare metals, gold is a special substance. As they understood little of its chemical properties, our ancestors believed gold to have magical powers. Gold was a natural metal to be used as coins - it was easily beaten into small pieces which were useful for carrying or transporting. There is a possibility that the gold that we use today has been re-worked from earlier items - so that gold watch you've been looking at may have had another life entirely!

When looking at priceless ancient works of art - sculptures, religious icons and jewellery etc - what often strikes you most is the heavy use of gold. The very fact that gold has a whole bunch of unique properties has meant that we still look upon it today as miraculous. Gold, along with other precious metals, was put to use in various religious ceremonies and as a status symbol by wealthier classes. Entire groups of people have been wiped out or displaced because of the desire for gold. Gold's value in today's society hasn't necessarily diminished, it has just evolved. With its unique ability to not corrode and still conduct current so well, we've put it to use in many of our electrical goods and still have found ways to use it in our teeth and around our necks.
